Ontario Hockey League Playoffs

Western Conference Semifinal

Owen Sound Attack 7 Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds 1
( The best of 7 is tied 3-3 )

Attack 7 Greyhounds 1

The Attack had 7 different scorers as they knotted the best of 7 series with the Greyhounds at 3 wins apiece, setting the stage for a dramatic 7th & deciding game Tuesday night at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste Marie ( 6:30 pm for Terry's Trailer Service-Kia of Owen Sound Bearadio on 560 CFOS ).

The Greyhounds opened the scoring when they took advantage of a turnover by Attack defender Trent Bourque & Barrett Hayton finished the play with his 4th goal of the series 14 minutes into period 1.

That was the only goal surrendered by underage Attack goalie Mack Guzda who stopped 24 shots to post his first career OHL Playoff victory and likely earn the nod to start Game 7 on Tuesday.

Bourque atoned for his miscue less than minute later when the St Louis Blue prospect spanked a rolling puck from the point that beat Matthew Villalta to tie the game at 1.

Owen Sound scored what stood as the game winner 90 seconds into the 2nd period when Jonah Gadjovich who returned after missing the last 2 & 1/2 games in the series, deflected Sean Durzi's shot for a goal.

The Attack pulled away with a power play marker from Kevin Hancock at 8:10 of the period followed by an Ethan Szypula blast 9 minutes later.

The goal by Hancock was his 16th career playoff goal which leaves him one shy of the franchise record of 17 jointly held by Adam Mair ( 1995-99 ) & Petrus Palmu ( 2015-17 ).

The goal by Szypula ended the night for Villalta who was replaced in net by Soo backup Tyler Johnson.

Johnson was welcomed 47 seconds later when Brett McKenzie banked in a shot from behind the goal line to make it 5-1 after 2 periods.

In the 3rd period Owen Sound potted two more markers as Alan Lyszczarczyk & Aidan Dudas scored to make the final 7-1 and force Game 7 on Tuesday night.

The 7th & deciding game in the series marks the 4th time in Owen Sound franchise history that a Game 7 has been required in a playoff series.

Interestingly, in all 4 cases, the 7th & deciding game has been on the road
