Home Sales slip in August.

Regional | by Kevin Bernard

Total sales are off 20 percent from 2016, but prices still go up.

There's been a slump in home sales in Grey Bruce.

Figures released by the Realtors Association of Grey Bruce Owen Sound show 285 sales in August.

That is down 20 percent from the record set in August of last year.

President of the Association Steve Dickie points out it was still the second best August in the last 10 years for real estate sales.

The average price for homes sold last month was over 292 thousand dollars, up 9.6 percent in the past year.

Meanwhile, the number of homes listed for sale is at a record low for this time of year.

Dickie says they have about 3.1 months worth of inventory on the market, down from 4.2 months in August of 2016.

The total dollar value for home sales last month was 83.4 million dollars, down 12.7 percent from a year ago.
