Geez, I liked the concept announced last week at Lion's Head & at Bruce Peninsula District School.
The Ontario Hockey Federation has approved BPDS to become a Hockey Canada Skills Academy beginning this fall.
Senior students at Lion's Head will complete two high school credits as part of the Academy; one for Phys.Ed and the other for Leadership
Bruce Peninsula Students involved in the program will get close to 40 hours of on ice sessions plus, on other days, the students will do dry land training and complete assignments for the Leadership credit.
The Leadership credit includes Community Service work which could entail organizing intramural hockey for both secondary and elementary students at Lion's Head plus establishing activities and tournaments for Lion's Head Minor Hockey.
The level of community support for the initiative has been fantastic, as the municipality and the Oldtimers Hockey Club are among the boosters & why not, the arena should be far busier than ever.
Finally, as part of the course, Bruce Peninsula District School will ice both a boys hockey team & a girls hockey team in the Bluewater Athletic Association Hockey Leagues for 2009/10.
There's a lot to like about the Hockey Canada Skills Academy coming to Bruce Peninsula District School
