Soccer Week

By Fred Wallace

The soccer scene in the city will be busy at the upper level this week.

In the York Region Soccer League tonight, Owen Sound Grey Motors United will host Innisfil SC in a Premier Division matchup.

Grey Motors is coming off a scoreless draw on Tuesday night at Thornhill and continue to wage a 4 way battle for first with Richmond Hill, Orangeville & Collingwood.

Owen Sound is 10 & 2 on the year with 4 draws and have beaten or tied everyone, with the exception of Collingwood who handed United their only two defeats on the season.

Grey Motors does have games in hand on their closest rivals, which makes tonight's game against 7th place Innisfil as much a " must win " scenario as a match with a top tier club would be.

Game time tonight is 8:45 pm at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex.

Sunday night, Grey Motors is back on the road, heading to Aurora.

Meanwhile, Sunday afternoon at the Complex, the Division 1 City Strikers are back in action.

Owen Sound blasted Orangeville 6-0 Tuesday night to improve to 11 & 3 with 1 draw.

In their first season of competition in the loop, the City Strikers moved to within 1 point of first place Bradford, and have a huge margin ahead of the # 3 seed, Barrie Spirit who will provide the opposition on Sunday afternoon at 5 pm.

Grey Motors United and the City Strikers.

Owen Sound Soccer obviously has two York Region title contenders with big games ahead tonight through Sunday.
