McNiven's Question

What Owen Sound Goalie Has The Most Consecutive Wins

Length:

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

Attack netminder Michael McNiven asked me a question recently; ' what goalie has the most consecutive wins for Owen Sound in the OHL ? '

I didn't know the answer at the time, ......and truthfully, I still don't.

When Michael and I were talking, I guessed that if anyone, it might be Brent Johnson who was the number 1 goalie in 1996 when the Platers won 10 straight games, or maybe Mike Brown who was the acquired # 1 netminder in 2004 when the Attack had a solid run.

So I checked.

My quick research related that Brent Johnson won 11 straight games in November and December of 1996.

Interestingly, the Johnson streak started one week after he got heaved from a game for fighting with Otters netminder Ryan Penney at Erie.

Also of note, Johnson was able to attain a victory in his streak with just 15 minutes of play one night as he relieved Curtis Sanford while trailing Belleville 5-4 and was the goalie of record when the Platers rallied for the win.

Mike Brown won 8 straight in his run, interrupted by an overtime loss at London when the Knights tied it with their net empty in the last minute of play.

Of note, Brown's point streak was 13 consecutive games in which he posted 11 wins, a tie against Barrie and the overtime loss.

Michael McNiven ?

He's won 10 straight.

He beat Guelph December 9th at the Sleeman Centre, departed for the National Junior Team Selection Camp, returned from a Christmas Break and then promptly has reeled off 9 straight wins to make it 10 in a row.

Will Michael McNiven start for the Attack tomorrow at Barrie ?
...I don't know.

If he does win at Barrie or in his next outing, will he tie a franchise record ?
...I don't really know that either. I'll have to check all 28 years of netminding records once this season is completed.

Have a great weekend.
