The expanded Wave Program from the Bruce County Rugby Football Club, is a co-ed " flag " rugby for youngsters aged 4 to 12 years old.
Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
It often fascinates me how many sporting activities are available to the youth in the city of Owen Sound and to those who reside in Grey-Bruce.
When I was a kid in Simcoe County, you played hockey in the Winter and then Baseball in the Summer.
Yes, there were some other activities, but not nearly the volume available for today's youngsters, which is great.
Among the new ventures for Owen Sound this Summer is the expanded Wave Program from the Bruce County Rugby Football Club.
The Wave Program is non-contact , co-ed " flag " rugby for youngsters aged 4 to 12 years old.
It's important to stress there are 4 separate age categories and " flag " rugby, like " flag " football, means no contact.
Those familiar with the Wave Program out of Tiverton relate it's essentially watching youngsters participating in a game of chase; sometimes they chase the Rugby ball, other times they just chase each other. Either way it's a great activity and a great way to learn the fundamentals of a sport that has emerged as a staple for Bluewater Athletics at the High School level.
Wave Program practices will be Monday nights from 6:30 - 7:30 pm at Notre Dame Catholic School starting May 15th and running through mid August.
There will also be 3 Saturday tournaments for participants throughout the season.
