Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
There's a showdown tonight at the Memorial Cup Tournament in Windsor between the Ontario Hockey League Champion Erie Otters and the host Windsor Spitfires.
The Otters are 2 & 0 after doubling Seattle 4-2 and then blasting St John 12-5.
The Spitfires, after a 6 week layoff, held on for a 3-2 win over St John in the tournament opener and then smoked Seattle 7-1.
One can only hope the level of competition is tight tonight, because a couple of the preliminary games have been utter blowouts, and no matter how Sportsnet tries to dress it up, it's been dreadful to watch.
Are the Otters and Spitfires that good ?
Or what happened to Seattle and St John from the the time they won their respective league championship to the start of the tourney.
The winner of the Erie-Windsor game this evening will advance directly to the Memorial Cup Championship Game on Sunday.
The loser of the Otters-Spitfires contest will still have a shot at the crown, but will have to win the semifinal game on Friday night.
Regardless of the outcome tonight, it's guaranteed that an OHL franchise will play for the Memorial Cup on Sunday and the possibility exists that an all OHL Final could be staged for the first time since Soo-Peterborough almost 25 years ago.
