Durham Wins 2017 Bluewater Fastball Title
Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
Among the activities last weekend was the first ever Bluewater Fastball League Championship for the Durham Dodgers.
The Dodgers came to the Bluewater circuit as a fairly young team, and took their lumps in the early going.
However, Durham developed and recruited well to rise to the level of champions, proving it with a narrow 6-4 extra innings win over the defending champion Wiarton Nationals Sunday in the annual tournament at Chepstow.
In the final, Durham overcame a 2-0 deficit well into the game and were tied 4-4 in extra innings.
In the bottom of the 9th with a Wiarton runner in scoring position, Durham's Dean Nixon made a catch in right field and then fired a strike to catcher Jason Paige to keep the game deadlocked.
In the 10th, Durham scored twice in the top of the frame highlighted by a Brady Becker triple, and then Dodgers pitcher Ty Sebastian struck out the Nationals side in the bottom of the 10th to win it.
Bluewater Fastball represents a wide territory of 8 teams and players that stretches over Grey-Bruce and beyond.
Durham's first ever Bluewater championship exemplifies how long it takes to develop into a contender and champion plus illustrates how balanced the loop has become.
