Attack Go 5 & 0 In OHL Pre-Season
Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off The Wire ".
The Owen Sound Attack ran the table in the Ontario Hockey League Exhibition season this year going 5 & 0....and you KNOW what that means..........
Well, maybe not " nothing ", but certainly it doesn't mean there should be drooling about the prospects of the season ahead; that's not the Owen Sound way, and it's not the Attack way.
For what it's worth, all 5 pre-season victories were against Eastern Conference teams...and Owen Sound does not play in the Eastern Conference.
If they did, there might be more than 3 banners at the JD McArthur Arena.
Over the last 5 years, Owen Sound's winning percentage against the 10 Eastern clubs is 68 %. If you take Oshawa & Barrie out of the equation, the success rate is a whooping 80 %.
Again, Owen Sound plays in the West, so the exhibition mark is nice, but not overly significant.
You may also point out that the Attack went 4 & 1 in the 2016 pre-season, a sign of a great regular season that was to come.
Fair enough, but I seem to remember the Attack went 2 & 4 out of the gate last year, a year in which ONE more win would have given them first overall in the Conference.
So the Attack exhibition record is a nice reward for the players involved, something to be proud of and something to forget come tomorrow when the Ontario Hockey League season starts, for real.
