Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
Even though the Ontario Hockey League Christmas Break is behind us, the Owen Sound Attack still have 2 games to play before they officially hit the midway point of the season.
Let me recap the current hockey season for the Attack.
1) great anticipation & expectations
2) a decent start, but a number of warts exposed
& 3) an absolute spiral into 8th place in the OHL's Western Conference.
Better yet, let me go to the stats book and trot out a few statistics that tell a story, even if I don't fully understand the story that's being told.
For example, Owen Sound has outshot the opposition in 28 of 32 games. You'd think the law of averages would give Owen Sound more than a barely .500 record.
Next, Owen Sound is 4 & 10 in their last 14 games. In 13 of those 14 games they've had a lead, sometimes right into the last minute before stumbling.
Furthermore, and this is a puzzle, when tied after 2 periods, Owen Sound is 1-5-0 & 2.
Does that point to a lack of fitness ?
Does that point to a lack of focus ?
Does that point to a team that's fragile ?
You might choose other words that start with " F ".
And finally, head to head with Midwest Division opponents, Owen Sound has lost the last 8 straight.
Kitchener leads the Midwest Division and the Rangers are here tonight for a 7 pm start.
