Ground Hog Day Prediction

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

Happy Ground Hog Day.

Whether Spring is 6 weeks away or coming earlier, here's hoping for a great weekend in Wiarton or elsewhere.

We mentioned the start of the WOAA Senior Hockey Playoffs earlier this week and the PJHL Pollock Division gets rolling tonight with their quarterfinal sets commencing, so for a number of local hockey teams, Spring could come as early as next weekend regardless of what Willie sees or doesn't see.

At the Ontario Hockey League level, it's a Midwest Division weekend for the Owen Sound Attack.

Tonight, Owen Sound goes to Guelph to face the Storm and then the Attack return home tomorrow night to face the Rangers.

It's not playoff time in the OHL, but it is playoff ramification time.

With the Attack winning 5 of their last 6, they managed to creep up on Windsor plus keep Guelph & Saginaw in view.

There are aspirations that Owen Sound might even catch London for 4th....but let's think about bypassing Windsor first.

And to that end, if the Attack are to move up on the Storm, they need 2 points tonight. Keep in mind, Guelph is 4 & 1 on the year against Owen Sound.

And IF the Attack do bypass Windsor for 7th, then they'd be lined up against Kitchener for a potential first round playoff matchup.

What will happen this weekend ?
Where will the Attack finish this season ?

We'll leave the predicting to the experts in Wiarton, at least for Ground Hog Weekend.

I'm Fred Wallace
