The Greatest Game Ever Played

Fred

By Fred Wallace

Not golf, but a memorable minor hockey affair between the Shallow Lake Lakers and the TCDMHA Rebels.

Length:

One of the best Minor Hockey games I saw this year, climaxed one of the most memorable playoff series.

The Shallow Lake Lakers and the TCDMHA Rebels met for the WOAA Local League North Division Championship in a best of 5 series.

.....it was supposed to be a best of 5, but by the time it caught my attention the two teams were going to Game SEVEN.

Shallow Lake had 2 wins.
TCDMHA had 2 wins, one in overtime.
Plus, 2 other games went to overtime, triple overtime in one case, and were declared ties.

The deciding game was to be at Shallow Lake........but as is custom, the ice had been removed, at ShallowLake, so the venue was shifted to the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound.

Guess what happened ?

Hunter Bryan scored for the Lakers.
Johnathan Farmer scored for the Rebels.
And once again, overtime was required.

It took 7 anxious minutes, but Duncan Hofmann from TCDMHA centered to Trevor McCarthy and the series was over.

It was great, and it was sad.
It was glorious and it was devastating.
It depends on your perspective.

But in the end, you had to appreciate the sheer joy, energy and excitement that was created by about 30 ten year olds over the course of several weekends climaxing in Game 7 of a best of 5.
