Netminder Billy Smith at Crimestoppers
Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
The 26th annual Crimestoppers of Grey Bruce Golf Tournament was staged last week at Saugeen Golf Club.
The most significant note is that a packed course at the club generated proceeds of $ 25,000 to Crimestoppers Grey-Bruce which will be utilized for their ongoing operation of the program which has been highly successful through the years.
Along with the golf & fundraising, the participants also heard from prominent Canadian sports broadcaster Brian Williams who has a lifetime of remarkable sports stories and encounters to share, taking everyone behind the scenes of some very memorable moments, sporting or otherwise.
Also on hand was Hockey Hall of Fame netminder Billy Smith.
Battlin' Billy, 4 time Stanley Cup Champion.....winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the 1983 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
After the event, I asked Billy, ' in today's hockey, how many Islanders could excel and conversely, how many of today's players could exist in the era of the Islanders dynasty.
Admittedly, it's not a fair question, but in short order Billy Smith responded that we're talking about vastly different time periods and certainly vastly different styles of play and there's no possible way to know or answer that comparison.
But it is fun to contrast and surmise
Congratulations to Crimestoppers Grey-Bruce and all the best in the year ahead as we head to the 27th annual tournament in 2019.
