Summer Advancing

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

We say it every year, or so it seems, remarking ' how fast ' Summer goes.

Our first example of an advancing Summer in sports comes from the Grey Bruce Ladies Fastball League who have released their playoff format and scheduled locations, dates & times.

This might not go down too well with the male ball players in our region, but it's fair comment on my part to observe the Ladies seem far more organized, and vastly more thorough than the men's leagues.

The Grey Bruce Ladies League sets a schedule.....and for the most part they stick to it. Outside of weather, there's never a wild alteration in their schedule and games don't pop up out of nowhere.

And most appreciated from this chair is the reciprocal reporting of results.

The radio station announces the upcoming games and the ladies almost without fail send their game reports and updates.

The men...........well we don't want to escalate the battle of the sexes.

The Grey Bruce Ladies Fastball League Playoffs commence next Monday at Allenford with a " Play-In " game between the 8th & 9th place finishers.

Then with one team eliminated, a field of 8 teams will compete in what amounts to a 2 week double knockout tournament format.

The Playoff Tournament essentially runs Tuesdays at Desboro, Wednesdays at Tara and Thursdays at Allenford beginning Tuesday July 31st and climaxing on Thursday August 16th with the Championship Final at Allenford.

These are good times for Ladies Fastball in the region with the Grey Bruce Playoff competition sandwiching the Provincial Women's Softball Association Intermediate Tier 2 Championship event August 3rd to 5th at Duncan McLellan Park in Owen Sound.

I'm Fred Wallace
