The Seasonal Shuffle

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

The changing of the local sporting seasons is upon us; a few Summer events climaxing and/or fading out, while Fall & Winter Sports either gently approach or burst onto the scene for another year.

There are many ways to explain the circle of life, but the perpetual season to season of local sports is maybe the best example.

Among the groups coming to a conclusion is Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse as they stage their annual Year End Awards Party.

The Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre is the site for the awards night which salutes those who play and those who coordinate the sport now...and in the future.

There's no better example, and really no better tribute, to the history of Lacrosse than to look at the names associated with the various awards

Harry Kazarian.

Cy Lemon and the Lemon Girls.

Cubby Cruickshank.

Jeff Tait.

Donnie Campbell

The Cathrae Family

John Picket.

They all have Minor Lacrosse Awards named in their memory or honour.

Some of those names were great players; tied to excellence in Owen Sound Lacrosse dating back decades, more than a half century in a couple of examples.

Some of those names were long time promoters, supporters, facilitators of a sport that maintains a high profile in our sporting community.

And some of those names were both; great performers, great promoters.

Congratulations in advance to the various winners of Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse awards tonight...but understand fully the historical significance of the names from the past attached to the trophies of the present.

I'm Fred Wallace
