Julian Smith Fundraiser Aug 26th
Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
Nordic skier Julian Smith is perpetually on the move.
When we caught up to Smith late last week, he was hopping a flight from Thunder Bay to Ottawa to participate in a Volume Camp, a program that essentially demands you workout & train for as long a period as possible in order to lower your heart rate.
No matter how low the heart rate is, Smith, a graduate of the Georgian Bay Nordic Club, has a beating heart that gets excited about the season ahead.
While he hasn't been on a snow trail this summer, unlike other summers, he anticipates that late October in Thunder Bay, if not beforehand at Camrose, Alberta, he'll be making tracks for the 2018-19 competitive season.
Again dealing with his heart, Smith admits last season took him high.... and low.
For the most part, his results were good to excellent, but when it mattered most, at the Under 23 Olympic Trial, in his words, he botched it and finished just inside the Top 10, which wasn't nearly good enough.
Was his heart broken ? No.....
The competitive perspective of Julian Smith is to enhance the good to great results, but also be highly motivated to do better if the performance isn't up to his high standards.
Sequestered in Thunder Bay and travelling the Nordic World, Julian Smith makes an annual return to our region for his fundraiser; " The Communiski " on Sunday August 26th at Gleason Brook Pottery in Georgian Bluffs.
For more information or tickets to " Communiski ", call 519-534-3222.
