Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire "
As the song says, ' Are You Ready for Some Football ? '
The National Football League season opens tonight in Philadelphia when the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles host the Atlanta Falcons in an NFC encounter.
The Eagles went 13 & 3 in the NFC East last year while Atlanta came in 10 & 6 in the highly competitive West last season.
It might just be happenstance, but the opener pits two teams who have been to the Super Bowl the past two seasons.
The Eagles won the 2018 title game beating New England 41-33 in Minneapolis.
The Falcons had been to the Championship Game the previous season at Houston, losing to New England 34-28
Naturally, many eyes are on New England again as the Patriots have been to the last 2 Super Bowl games and have played for the title 5 times in the last 11 years which is fairly impressive....or aggravating depending on how you view the Pats.
Sunday, New England will open at home against the Houston Texans.
New England was 13 & 3 last year while the Texans struggled at 4 & 12 and were 1 & 7 on the road.
Do you see a Houston road win on Sunday ? Not me.
Do you see the Vikings and the Steelers following up on their sterling seasons last year when they too finished 13 & 3 ?
The 2019 Super Bowl will be played February 3rd at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
You can project who will be in that Championship Game all you want, that's the appeal of Fantasy Sports & bar room speculation.
But the ultimate determining factor commences tonight when the Falcons and Eagles open the National Football League season.
