Saugeen Set For Seniors

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

Tomorrow and Friday are big days at Saugeen Golf Club in Saugeen Shores.

The 2018 Ontario Senior Men's Ryder Cup Championship is being conducted with a practice day on Thursday and then the best ball competition on Friday.

Sixteen provincial golf clubs will be represented at the event including the host entry from Saugeen who have a team entered.

The format is best ball and the Championship represents a culmination of a summer of play.

In a nutshell, every participating team is lumped into a division of 4 golf clubs and there are 4 golf days over the course of the Spring & Summer; one at your home course and then 3 more at each of your divisional counterparts.

Ultimately, the field gets narrowed down and the 16 survivors are on their way to the 2 day playdown at Saugeen.

The Ontario Senior Ryder Cup has been in existence for 2 decades, starting with humble beginnings of just 4 clubs, the stated goal is to hit a cap of 128 clubs participating in the divisional playdowns leading to a tidy group of 16 for the finale.

The team representing Saugeen will have home course advantage naturally, but based on the results through the season, the smart money is on the Highland Country Club from London.
