Hockey Day Saturday at The Plex

Length:

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

The Davidson Centre in Kincardine was the site for a neat sequence of hockey games last weekend.

The Bruce Power-Great Lakes Challenge was conducted with four U-Sports Women's teams competing; the Brock Badgers & York Lions from Ontario plus the Regina Cougars and University of Lethbridge Pronghorns from the West.

The 4 teams played a 6 game head-to-head round robin tournament and at the end of the weekend, the Regina Cougars were the most successful team winning all 3 of their games; 2-1 over York, 4-3 in overtime against Brock and then 3-1 in their finale over Lethbridge.

From the outside, it looked like a marvellous concept for Kincardine and the hockey community whereby they utilized their rink, showcased University Women's Hockey and also established a working illustration to the ladies in Kincardine of just where hockey can take you.

Moving ahead to this weekend, Saugeen Shores is conducting a unique " Hockey Day " on Saturday at The Plex in Port Elgin

Beginning at 9 am Saturday, there will be 5 Minor Hockey games pitting Saugeen Shores against Kincardine.

Novice Girls, Atom Girls, Atom AE, Peewee Girls & then Bantam Girls.

When the 5 minor games have been completed, The Plex will then host a PJHL Pollock Division game between the Goderich Flyers & the " host " Kincardine Bulldogs commencing at 3:30 Saturday afternoon.

And then when the Juniors are concluded, the WOAA Season & Home Opener for the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks will be staged as the Ripley Wolves pay a visit for a 7:30 start.

Seven games. Minor Hockey, mostly girls but a boys game, a PJHL game and then a Senior Game featuring mostly Saugeen Shores teams plus clubs from nearby Kincardine, Goderich and Ripley.

Like the Bruce Power Hockey Challenge a week ago, Hockey Day in Saugeen Shores looks like an eventful day for the sport.

I'm Fred Wallace
