Monday & Tuesday Moments

Open Mic + Food Drive

Length:

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

The past two days have been fairly inspiring, motivating and definitely eye opening, for me.

The first function was staged Monday night at Best Western Inn on the Bay in Owen Sound, the 9th Open Mic for Mental Health.

I'd estimate there were 60 people there, but based on what I saw, what I heard and what I felt, I honestly believe there's not a room big enough to service everyone who could benefit from an evening of sharing like that.

The next Open Mic won't be until the Spring, primarily due to erratic weather conditions between now & Spring, tentatively set for Kincardine.

But regardless of when and where, and regardless of your state of mental well being, there's significant benefits to attending one of these evenings.

Next, less than 12 hours later, our studios were visited by 4 Minor Bantam Hockey players representing the Owen Sound Firefighter Attack.

While preparing for the Regional Silver Stick competition on the ice, the Firefighter Minor Bantams were conducting a Food Drive off the ice.

And what a staggering success the campaign was !!

The 18 players, with an assist from the coaching staff & family members, collected in excess of 1,500 pounds of canned goods and non-perishable items for the Food Bank.

These kids are 13, and while understandably jumpy and excited to be on the air with The Great Paul Hill, they also displayed a great deal of poise and social accountability.

Those were very good moments Monday & Tuesday. Here's hoping today can match it.

I'm Fred Wallace
