Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
Is it possible that Major League Baseball will commence in less than 4 months ?
It seems that it was only moments ago that the Boston Red Sox eliminated the LA Dodgers to win the 2018 World Series ( Actually it's been a month )
Regardless, I got thinking about Major League Baseball this week with the announcement that the Atlanta Braves were going to sign Josh Donaldson.
Naturally, I checked the MLB schedule, and the first games will be March 20th & 21st when the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners open ..............in Tokyo.
The traditional Opening Day is scheduled for Thursday March 28th and the season will conclude on Sunday September 29th.
Of course when you start thinking baseball, in these parts, you also think " fastball ".
The Ontario Amateur Softball Association Annual General Meeting & awards were staged last weekend at Burlington.
Among those being honoured were two prominent names from Owen Sound; Brad Underwood & Bill Simpson.
Brad Underwood was inducted into the OASA Hall of Fame, primarily for his pitching abilities, but anyone who saw him play knew he had a dangerous bat. Underwood now resides in the OASA Hall, the ISC Hall, and the Owen Sound Sports Hall of Fame.....he was that good.
And Bill Simpson won the Feaver Family Award which is presented to a player, official or officer of any league or association who, in the opinion of the Feaver Awards Committee, has made an outstanding contribution to the game of softball.....
Simpson's contributions to the sport in these parts have been obvious for decades and will be seen again this Summer with an OASA and a Softball Canada Championship set for Duncan McLellan Park.
Have a great weekend,
I'm Fred Wallace
