Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
The last two times I've slipped over to Meaford to see the Knights play in the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League, the games have been exceptional.
I know you think I'm just beating a promotional drum. but the games I saw on November 8th and again this past Sunday were down to the wire exciting, thanks in large part to netminder Alan Menary.
On the 8th of November, Eli Kinsmen scored with just over 2 minutes to play to give the Knights a 3-2 win over the Ville Marie Pirates who at that time were the number 1 team in the North and pumped 42 shots at Menary.
Last Sunday, Menary made 25 saves in regulation and then stopped all 7 shootout attempts as Meaford nipped New Tecumseth 3-2.
In both cases, the Knights knocked off opponents who have vastly better point total than they do.
Curiously, between November 8th & December 2nd, Meaford won just twice.....one of which was a default victory over the now departed Wiarton Schooners.
Tonight at the Meaford & St Vincent Community Centre, the Knights look to extend their win streak to 3 straight and defeat a foe that sits just below them in the standings; the South Muskoka Shield.
The streaks and stumbles for the Knights are part of the sometimes curious world of the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League.
The curiosity shifts to the schedule for this weekend.
After tonight's home game against the Shield, Meaford will play tomorrow night at West Nippissing.....Saturday night in Ville Marie.....and then for good measure Sunday afternoon at Temiscaming; FOUR in a row.
The sequence starts tonight at 7:30 when the Knights of Meaford host South Muskoka
