Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off The Wire. "
It gets kind of quiet in these parts for hockey after the next day or so.
The Ontario Hockey League Christmas break is underway.
Plus in 2 days time, the Knights of Meaford of the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League will go on their holiday break.
Before they depart, the Meaford lads have a pair of contests; tonight at Bradford against the Bulls & then tomorrow night at home against the New Tecumseth Civics.
Many times in Junior Hockey, regardless of what league we're talking about, the pending Christmas Break can be distracting.
I remember one time a player, jokingly, told me that he played the 3rd period with his car keys in his hockey gloves in order to hasten his getaway for Christmas.
What might make these two games for Meaford more of a focal point is that they're fairly pivotal in the North Division standings.
Tonight at Bradford, the Knights who are 6th in the North Division go against the Bulls who are 8th, 4 points back of Meaford.
However, the Bradford squad has won 3 of their last 5, and the 2 losses were by 1 goal to divisional powerhouses.
Then tomorrow night, Meaford will conclude the pre-Christmas season by hosting the New Tecumseth Civics who sit 2 points up on the Knights, but have also played 2 more games than Meaford.
Bit by bit, Christmas is coming to our regional hockey leagues and teams, but for the Knights of Meaford, there's two significant games to be played before the players depart & before Santa Claus comes to town.
