Beginning To Look Like Christmas

Fred

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off The Wire. "

Again, it's not Christmas, but it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, day by day, moment by moment.

Already this week, we've talked about the World Junior Hockey Championship Tournament that begins Wednesday in BC and features both Markus Phillips & Nick Suzuki of the Owen Sound Attack.

Last night, the Knights of Meaford played their final game before Christmas as they now take a break in the Greater Metro Junior Hockey league until January 10th when they return to face South Muskoka.

And as further evidence that Christmas is here, or might close, today is the final day for Bluewater Athletics before the Christmas Break.

On the go today we've got an all Walkerton matchup in Boys Hockey, there's Boys basketball contest in Lion's Head plus Girls & Boys Curling at Kincardine.

The Winter Sports season for Bluewater Athletics gets truncated multiple times.

First by the pending Christmas Break.

Then, when the student/athletes return, competition in the various sports and activities will only run for 2 weeks before exams take over and gyms go quiet again.

However, the high school athletic season will resume in early February and pick up steam leading to various OFSAA Championships, among them, the Snowboard Festival scheduled for Georgian Peaks in late February

Then in March, OFSAA Championships seemingly run the entire month with the local & regional highlights being the hockey championships with the Girls Tournament at Midland and Boys Tournaments in Barrie and centered in Kincardine.

You've heard the saying, " I can't wait til Christmas ". And while that still applies, there's certainly a lot to anticipate after Christmas in Bluewater & High School sports.

I'm Fred Wallace
