Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
It's not often that this segment deals with artistic endeavours, but today we'll make an exception.
Tonight at 7 pm, the Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound will conduct a public unveiling of a GIANT Goalie Mask.
How big ?
The mask is 8 feet high, 4 & 1/2 feet wide and 4 & 1/2 feet deep and is the centrepiece of an ongoing exhibit at the Gallery called " Saving Face; Art in Front of the Hockey Net.
This exhibit has been running since December and the reaction to the display which features dozens of goalie masks and their respective artistic designs has been solid.
Heather McLeese, the curator of contemporary art at the Tom relates the turnout has made the usually quiet winter months seem almost summer like in terms of traffic volume in the venue.
Furthermore, and maybe not surprisingly, the connection to hockey & sport in the community has attracted an entirely new group of visitors, many of whom quite likely have never set foot in the gallery before.
The Saving Face exhibit is on display at the Tom Thomson Art Gallery until March 30th, but tonight is a special night featuring the official arrival of a GIANT Goalie Mask
Have a great weekend.
