Bench Talk / Off The Wire

Colts & Curling

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

For the second consecutive meeting, for the second time in 6 days, the Owen Sound Attack and Barrie Colts have a significant Ontario Hockey League matchup that will have an immediate, and potentially a long term impact, on their respective regular season fates.

Again, Owen Sound and Barrie aren't even in the same OHL Conference, but based on geography they face each other 6 times per year and the results annually weigh heavily on their overall outcome.

Last Thursday, the Attack won 4-2 at Barrie and then followed with a loss at London on Friday and a home game win over Kingston on Saturday.

The Attack results combined with other OHL results have Owen Sound sitting 5th in the Western Conference, just ahead of Kitchener & Sarnia.

The loss for Barrie last Thursday was the first in a 3 game skid that has left the Colts 9th in the Eastern Conference, 7 points back of North Bay for the final playoff spot on that side.

So, it's fair to say tonight's game is crucial, maybe more so for the Colts.

Game time is 7 pm

Meanwhile, we also remind you the Brokerlink Insurance Grey Bruce Major Curling League Quarterfinals are tonight at 8 pm in Tara

Don Bartley of Tara meets Shawn Kaufman from Walkerton while Tara's Scott Davidson goes against Mike Hamer of the Port Elgin Curling Club.

The 2 Quarterfinal Winners tonight at Tara advance to the Semifinals in Chesley on Sunday where defending champion Brett McAllister of Chesley and the Al Hutchinson rink from Hanover await

OHL or Brokerlink Curling- there's significant games tonight
