Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
I saw a note last week on my vaunted Twitter account from the Ontario Amateur Softball Association that related the city of Owen Sound will be hosting an Under 16 Boys Softball Tournament this Spring.
The tournament which is set for the weekend of June 7th to 9th, now brings the total to at least 3 big fastball events for Duncan McLellan Park in 2019.
A month after this new entry, Owen Sound will be hosting the O.A.S.A. Under 23 Tournament which will run on the weekend of July 5th-7th.
Then, another month later, the Softball Canada Under 19 Championship comes to the city commencing August 6th & running to August 11th
Of course, the Provincial Women's Softball Association may also have a tournament this summer, but they usually don't give official notice until 48 hours before the first pitch is thrown ( & then complain they don't get any coverage !! )
In the middle of this, I'm also keeping my eye on July 1st.
Canada Day, somewhat ironically, is the deadline for hosting bid submissions for the 2021 ISC Men’s Fastpitch World Tournament.
This is intriguing to me as 2021 will mark the 75th anniversary of the ISC Championship and I'm certain will attract numerous solid candidates to be the host centre.
The first ISC was in 1947 at Phoenix. Will they go back to their roots ?
Rock Island, Illinois, hosted the event 9 straight years, but not once in the last 50.
Kimberley, Wisconsin has been the site 11 times, but curiously, not once in the last decade.
And then there's....Kitchener, Ontario, a successful host on 5 occasions including just last Summer.
Canada Day will be an interesting day, part of an interesting 2019 for fastball in the city, region and province.
I'm Fred Wallace
