Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
It's a Curling day today.
The most significant event in the country is the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts being staged at Sydney, Nova Scotia with 3 draws scheduled for today.
That's not to say there's not significant curling matches a little closer to our region or players from our region.
The Tara Curling Club skipped by Joey Rettinger is at the Ontario Senior Men's Championship which begins this afternoon at Brockville.
Team Rettinger consists of vice Dave Twining and 2nd Peter Eller plus Brad Cobean and/or Roger Kamrath
The Tara rink plays their first game this afternoon against Bryan Cochrane of the Russell Curling Club and then will face Gary Grant of Lindsay tonight at 8 pm
The round robin event runs through Saturday with a possible spillover based on tiebreakers.
Finally, looking back to Sunday, congratulations to the Brett McAllister rink from Chesley who defended their championship and won the 2019 Brokerlink Insurance Grey Bruce Major Curling League Playoffs.
In the Final, McAllister defeated the Al Hutchinson out of Hanover
Meanwhile, in an all Tara matchup, Don Bartley beat Scott Davidson for 3rd place plus Walkerton's Shawn Kaufman won the Consolation title with a victory over Mike Hamer of the Port Elgin Curling Club.
Winning the Brokerlink title has its pros & cons.
The good news; you get all the good stuff that accompanies a championship.
The bad news, the winners have to organize the league next year.
I'm Fred Wallace
