Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
There are 4 games tonight in the Ontario Hockey League including one in Owen Sound where the Attack host the Barrie Colts in a significant matchup for both teams.
The Colts lost last night at North Bay and have been pushed to the very brink of elimination from playoff contention. If Barrie doesn't win tonight; they're out for the 2nd time in the last 3 years.
The Attack, while focused on Barrie tonight, will also be interested in what transpires in Erie where the Otters are hosting the Kitchener Rangers.
Currently, the Rangers sit 5th in the Western Conference, 4 points up on the Attack with a season ending home & home between the 2 clubs on the horizon this weekend.
In a nutshell, based on tiebreakers, Owen Sound has to accumulate 5 more points than Kitchener in this the last week of the season in order to bypass the Rangers in the standings and thus meet Guelph in the first round of the playoffs.
It's possible, .......but the odds are long.
It's also possible that Sault Ste Marie could bypass Saginaw for the # 2 seed in the West.
It's also possible that Sarnia could bypass Owen Sound for 6th.
& It's also possible that Windsor or Erie could bypass Sarnia for 7th
So there's a fair bit of uncertainty in the OHL's Western Conference heading to the final days of the season.
The most likely playoff scenarios in the Western Conference, as I see it, are;
London vs Somebody
Saginaw vs Sarnia
The Attack against Sault Ste Marie
& Guelph against Kitchener
But the games and the outcomes still have to be played and decided, so we'll see what unfolds tonight
Game time for the Attack & Colts is 7 pm at the JD McArthur Arena
