Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
Game 4 of the Ontario Hockey League's Western Conference Quarterfinal between the Attack & Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds goes tonight at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
On the strength of back to back victories, the Greyhounds hold a 2 games to 1 lead in the best of 7 set.
There was no debate going into the series that Sault Ste Marie was the favorite, certainly no debate based on paper.
And on the ice over 3 games, I think there should be very little debate that the Greyhounds have been the better team...and yet, Owen Sound is just one win away from squaring this series.
This is the point of the comment where I say, ' the Attack have to be better on the power play ( 0 for 6 in Game 3 ) ', ..' the Attack have to be better on the penalty kill '....' the Attack have to stay out of the penalty box '...' the Attack have to bury their chances '...' the Attack have to focus highly on 4 key Greyhounds '....yata, yata, yata.
You think the Attack, both players and coaches, don't know all this & more ?
Every day I see the Attack staff with their eyes intently focused on their computers watching video.
As an example, the Greyhounds had great success in the opening two games on the power play with the puck going from Frost at the left point to MacKay at the left goal line and then immediately to Howdeshell in the low slot on the left side. Bang-Bang-Bang.
So what happens in game 3...... ?
Hayton gets it at the left flank, gets it to Peca at the goal line, but instead of going into the slot, Peca passed through the front of the crease to Pytlik who scored.
Sometimes all your preparation can be sewered by one tiny deviation.
The Owen Sound Attack are fully aware of what they have to do.
Now, can they do it tonight ?
See you at 7.
