Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
The NHL's Stanley Cup Final begins tonight in Boston as the Bruins host the St Louis Blues in a rematch of the 1970 Final won by the Bruins in 4 straight, climaxed by the legendary sequence captured on film and video of Bobby Orr in his prime, soaring through the air, after scoring the overtime winner in Game 4.
Through the next 49 years Boston went to the Stanley Cup Final 8 times, winning it on 2 occasions and unfortunately encountering dynasty teams from Montreal & Edmonton on 4 other occasions.
For St Louis, this is their first appearance in the Cup Final since 1970.
Who do we root for in this Championship Series ?
That's a very tough question, certainly in Saugeen Shores.
Port Elgin native Louie DeBrusk's son, Jake, plays for Boston.
But in Southampton, you'll find the grandparents of St Louis forward Robert Thomas.
In Owen Sound, we've been thrilled by the rise and success of former Attack netminder Jordan Binnington who's backstopped the Blues from the basement to to the penthouse in 5 eventful months.
But, on my bulletin board is a $ 100 wager from the Flamingo in Las Vegas that will pay off handsomely IF Boston wins.
So you can see the dilemma here in our region and I'm sure it's being played out in communities across Canada and in certain pockets of the United States.
No matter who you're pulling for, what you cannot deny is that the most deserving teams in what has been a wacky post season have arrived at the pinnacle of pro hockey.
