Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
The Winter term in Bluewater Athletics is underway.
Curling and Hockey for both Girls and Boys commenced last week and there are games on the docket today in both activities.
The opening games in Bluewater Boys Basketball were staged yesterday in the South at Walkerton & Kincardine.
The North has Boys Basketball today with games at Grey Highlands in Flesherton and the all-Owen Sound matchup at OSDSS.
Plus, the Girls Volleyball season opens this afternoon with a sequence of games being staged at Saugeen District Secondary School.
The Winter term also features badminton plus skiing for both Nordic & Alpine; it's a busy season that gets somewhat intersected at times by Christmas then by the exam schedules.
Still, the transition for high school athletes from one sport to another, from one season to another is underway.
That's not to say there's not an opportunity to continue playing a singular sport from the Fall or specialize, using Volleyball as our example.
Tonight in Chesley, the Big Bruce Volleyball Club begins operation for a 32nd year.
The club is open to boys 18 and under with tryouts tonight and next Tuesday at Chesley Community School to select the squad, or maybe squads, that will compete through the next few months in the the Southwestern Ontario 18U Volleyball League.
The top players from our region Players will go against teams from Chatham, Huron County, Stratford and other southwestern Ontario areas over the course of the season.
Curling, Hockey, Badminton, Nordic, Alpine, Boy Basketball, Girls Volleyball & the Big Bruce Boys Volleyball Club. That should make for an active Winter.
